Exposure Science is the domain that we work in. It is a relatively new field that provides the information and tools that bridge the disciplines of environmental sciences and environmental health.

What separates us from other environmental monitoring firms is that we can tie environmental measurements to human health concerns. We are trained exposure scientists who have worked on a variety of environmental exposures from pesticides in agricultural communities to the health effects of gas and particulate matter composition. High pollution concentrations are a concern when the possibility of exposure exists to result in potential adverse health effects. Depending on the environment, not only are there different regulations in place, but different agencies are responsible (have jurisdiction). Furthermore, it is not uncommon that in a number of micro-environments, in particular, private, semi-public spaces, it is unclear what regulations apply or who is ultimately responsible. This latter situation leads to much confusion but we have the experience and academic background to understand the current peer-reviewed literature and government reports to provide guidance.

Current note: Social distancing, as generally implemented (with lockdown/shutdown rules), has proven very effective when applied in a timely and serious manner; however, as re-opening is occurring now and then, there is a need to know how to quantify and reduce risk as people begin to come physically closer and more frequently together. As the coronavirus is physically transmitted from person to person, whether it is in large cough or sneeze droplets, or on smaller suspended particles, air is the medium through which it travels. By monitoring air quality, not only do we measure the freshness of the air, but the measurements can also automatically control systems that will improve its freshness. Atlas Sensing Labs can advise on best practices in common/shared environments. If there is a desire to also dynamically control indoor air quality, we can use our real-time systems to measure in combination with Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices that automatically work to improve air quality.
